Amer was bred in Saudi Arabia and as with most of the original horses in the Middle East he was bred by strain - his sire is of the Sowaiti strain and his dam from the Al Hamdanieh line.  He was presented as a gift to the Emir of Qatar by HRH Prince Sultan bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud when he was three years old and remained in Qatar until 1995.

His bloodlines are particularly sought after as a valued outcross.  His first progeny were born in 1996 and all are grey.
